Y EL CANTO DE TODAS - AND THE SONG OF ALL WOMEN

A tribute to the silenced voices of Latin America

Y el canto de todas (translated as “And the Song of All Women”) is a groundbreaking album by Spanish classical guitarist Rafael Serrallet, created in collaboration with the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine, which continued its artistic activity throughout the war. The album celebrates the music of Latin American women composers—many of whom have been overlooked or erased by history—through exquisite arrangements for guitar and orchestra.

Spanning a wide array of styles, from folk and bolero to classical and contemporary idioms, YCT features works by Violeta Parra, Chabuca Granda, Ernestina Lecuona, María Luisa Anido, Chavela Vargas, Lidya Mendoza, Teresa Carreño, and others. The album also includes an original piece by Serrallet titled Elegía, written in homage to all these creators and the enduring power of female creativity.

In addition to its artistic excellence, the project carries a strong message of cultural memory, gender equity, and international solidarity. The choice to record with a Ukrainian orchestra during a time of conflict underlines a shared resilience and commitment to beauty in the face of adversity.

This is not just an album—it is a movement. A sonic testimony to the strength, sensitivity, and diversity of Latin American women’s musical legacy.
